Raleigh, Greenville Newspapers Endorse Wayne Goodwin for Re-election as NC Insurance Commissioner!

In addition to the throng of newspaper editorial boards from the mountains to the sea that have already done so, Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin has today received the editorial board endorsements of both the Raleigh News & Observer and the The Daily Reflector of Greenville.

The Greenville newspaper had this to say specifically:

"Goodwin, 45, is the Democratic incumbent who was elected four years ago after serving eight years in the N.C. House. He has successfully sparred with insurance companies in an effort to keep rates low for the state’s motorists, though housing rates may increase along the coast due to legislation passed by the General Assembly.

Causey, 62, is the Republican challenger who worked as an insurance agent for 30 years. ...

... Goodwin has proven to be the type of dedicated, thoughtful public servant North Carolina should appreciate. Voters should lend him their support."

With major endorsements coming his way and statewide TV, radio and social media ads running constantly touting his proven record of fighting for the people, Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin has the momentum going his way for success on Tuesday night when the polls close and the ballots are counted.

NC Insurance Commissioner Helps Lead Raleigh "People's Processional" to Ring in New Year

Tens of thousands of revelers gathered along the parade route, with many hundreds of persons also in the parade.

Standing in front of Commissioner Goodwin are his daughter, Madison, and niece, Autumn, both of whom are holding the parade banner. To the left of him is NC Secretary of State Elaine Marshall.

"It is both fitting and proper for me to participate in the 'People's Processional' because it is my job - my duty - to protect our people each and every day, making sure that every day folks have access to insurance that is fairly priced and in a market that's solvent," said Insurance Commissioner Goodwin.

Though Not on Ballot in 2010, Statewide Elected Official Barnstorms All Over

Wayne Goodwin says he doesn't just meet consumers and voters during his election year, but each and every day.

To that end, he has picked up the pace of criss-crossing North Carolina from east to west, back and forth over the last several months.

Sometimes he's speaking to a group of 15 members of a civic club.

Another day he's bringing down the house in front of 1,000 senior citizens or small business owners at a conference.

As July Comes to Close, Goodwin Reflects on Recent Travels

Including Recent Independence Day Events

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin regularly criss-crosses the State, sharing news of the work of his expert team and how together they fight on behalf of consumer protections and fair ratemaking.

Though many pols take parts of the months of June and July off, our insurance regulator didn't slow down.

He visited most corners of the State, including beach, coast, piedmont, foothills, and mountains.

Goodwin was especially energized during his July 4th holiday visits and parades. Southport, Troy, Raleigh, and Ellerbe were among his stops.

"Recalling those long, hot weeks when our Founding Fathers ultimately and articulately declared our national independence - along with the patriotic flourishes resplendent at such events - always give me goosebumps and a greater sense of purpose," said the Commissioner of Insurance.

Southport's revered annual Fourth of July Festival was especially inspiring: Colonia regalia, flag-raising, patriotic speeches, Americana-laden holiday parade, and the like.

"I commend the Mayor and the Southport-Oak Island Chamber of Commerce for doing an excellent job once again this year."

Goodwin also delivered speeches or visited folks in Pinehurst, Smithfield, Charlotte, Monroe, and Greensboro during this time frame.

Insurance Commissioner Goodwin Visits Senior Democrats of Wake County

Last week I had the personal pleasure to join the Wake County Senior Dems as their monthly luncheon speaker.

In addition to sharing with the gathered activists the duties and scope of the office of Insurance Commissioner and of the Department of Insurance, the senior citizens posed many insightful questions. Their queries spanned the topics of health insurance reforms in Washington, D.C. to the State Health Plan involving state employees, retirees, and their dependents; from coastal insurance to the vital consumer protections provided by the office of Insurance Commissioner.

"I was especially pleased to share with them the mission of my Department's Seniors' Health Insurance Information Program," said Goodwin. "We talked in depth about how we have trained SHIIP volunteers around the State who are available to help folks navigate the maze of Medicare Part D."
